Kanoo Klean offers a range of fuel additives that are specially designed to control high temperature corrosion and ash fouling of gas turbine hot section components. Our expert team will assist in making the appropriate product selection and recommending optimum dosage requirements. Custom-designed formulations can also be provided for specific or unique applications.
Our additive selection is usually based on the following broad classification:
Washed crude oils and residual-grade fuel oils containing vanadium, lead, zinc and nickel trace metals
Unwashed crude oils and residual-grade fuel oils containing sodium and potassium contamination in addition to vanadium and other heavy metal impurities
Contaminated distillate-grade fuel oils containing small quantities of sodium / other impurities that exceed OEM specification limits
Technology of Vanadium Control
Vanadium burns to form V2O5 (vanadium pentoxide), which is highly corrosive in the liquid state. V2O5 has a melting point of about 1250oF, which is not uncommon in industrial boilers or gas turbines.
Kanoo's magnesium sulfonates will form complexes with these vanadium compounds. The magnesium / vanadium oxides formed via complexing have melting points in excess of 2000oF, Therefore, they will not be corrosive, but will be a relatively harmless ash.
V2O5 is a well-known catalyst for converting SO2 to SO3. When SO3 is combined with water, sulfuric acid is produced. The Mg/V complex will not catalyze the SO2 to SO3 conversion, thereby reducing the formation of sulfuric acid.
Key Features and Benefits
Small average particle size
Highly reactive surface magnifies the effectiveness of the magnesium.
Continued reactivity in the cold end of the system reduces corrosion of exhaust or flue gas components.
Unique magnesium carbonate dispersion
Extremely stable in fuels containing typical levels of water and / or asphaltenes.
Reduced or complete elimination of plugged screens, filters, flow dividers, etc. in fuel system.
Imparts anti-wear characteristics to the fuel oil.
Recommended for use in marine and stationery gas turbine fuel systems where fuel storage stability and quality are a concern.
Low abrasive nature of the small particles results in reduced burner tip and nozzle wear.
